President’s Message

President’s Message – Spring Message 2019

Happy New Year and Chinese New Year to the Thunderbird Community! As I write this message in the third week of January, on a sunny, mild weekend, I am reflecting on a year of significant accomplishment for the TNA Board. In 2018 we finalized and signed the new JOA with Vancouver Park Board and introduced a Code of Conduct for TNA volunteers and staff. We started the Association’s first Strategic Plan and revised our By-laws and Constitution under the new BC Societies Act (2016). The Centre’s Banners are once again flying above our streets. We welcomed two new staff to the Preschool and were approved for a PB/COV Capital grant of up to $150,000 to renovate the Preschool play area in 2019. We have started a process to negotiate Terms of Service for Thunderbird Centre between VSB and VPB. These works require the consistent, committed and creative work of the all-volunteer TNA Board of Directors, in conjunction with our PB CRS Luke Balson, our volunteers on the Fitness Centre and Programs Committees and our PB and TNA staff. The Board welcomes our two new Directors, Vanessa Tan and Charles Leong, who were elected at the November, 2018, AGM.

In 2019 we are hoping to attract a volunteer with experience in business administration and/or accounting, to work with our Finance Committee on a number of financial initiatives. In 2019 the Board will work to inventory all of TNA assets and to revise our Policies and Procedures. Since “many hands make light work”, we invite members of the community to volunteer their time and talents to Thunderbird Centre’s many projects – just contact us through our friendly front office staff. In the Fall, 2018 civic election, a number of candidates were elected to serve 4 years as PB Commissioners. We welcome Ms. Gwen Giesbrecht as Thunderbird’s liaison Commissioner to PB.

We hope you enjoy our many programs for children and for adults of all ages. If you have ideas for new programs or services that you would like to see offered at Thunderbird, drop a suggestion off to our Programmer, Ms. Nicholson or at the front office.

Happy Spring to all,

Mike Bradley.
